About
White Ravens
White Ravens is a small, open-source, self-hosting, privacy-first non-profit collective. We build tools and communities that put people back in control of their data — and we publish almost everything we make.
What we do
We design and run a handful of services for ourselves and our friends, and open-source the pieces that are useful to anyone else. Most of our work lives in three places:
- The collective — long-form pages, governance, and the people behind it — at whiteravens.net.
- The services — documentation, status, and self-hosting guides at wrservices.link.
- The code — every repository under github.com/whiteravens20, MIT-licensed unless explicitly marked otherwise.
This blog is where we share engineering notes, release write-ups, post-mortems when things break, and the occasional opinion piece.
What we believe
- Open by default. If a thing can be public, it should be. The interesting bits aren’t the secrets — they’re the rationale.
- Self-hosted first. We run what we build, on hardware we control, before recommending it to anyone else.
- Privacy is a feature, not a feature flag. No third-party trackers, no shadow analytics, no font CDNs phoning home from this blog.
- Small over scalable. We’d rather ship something honest for a hundred people than something cynical for a million.
